FORGET-ME-NOT SUPPORT GROUP
Meetings for the
group are held on the last
Thursday of each month at 7pm at
Laindon Community Centre, Aston
Road, Laindon Essex, everyone is
welcome. We are not qualified
counsellor's just ordinary
mothers who can share our
experiences and hopefully help
to heal some of the pain
families suffer at this very sad
time. A Relate Counsellor will
be available at each meeting.
The Forget-me-not
Support Group is a new group
aimed at supporting families who
have suffered the loss of a baby
before, during or shortly after
childbirth.
Unfortunately
around 1 in 200 births is a
stillbirth and around seven
percent of births are premature
(before 37 weeks gestation) then
of course there are babies who
die shortly after birth from a
variety of different conditions.
We have learnt through our
experiences that the loss of a
baby effects not only the mother
and father but each member of
the family and close friends in
different ways, some are angry
other suffer feelings of guilt
or utter despair whilst others
simply don't want to discuss the
baby at all. We have all felt
that talking to other parents
who have suffered a loss has
been a great help as we have
come to realise that the
emotions we have been feeling
are absolutely normal.
The main aim of
the support group is for
mothers, fathers, grandparents,
aunties, uncles or friends to
come along and talk about their
feelings or just listen to other
experiences. The group is open
to anyone who has lost a baby
and not only for recent
bereavements. We have also
learnt through experience how
parents feel when making the
decision to have another baby
and know the anxiety suffered
during the subsequent
pregnancies and the worry that
something may go wrong again,
hopefully we can offer some
reassurance to these parents.
